Special Political and Decolonization Committee
Special Political and Decolonization Committee, the fourth committee of the United Nations General Assembly, was created in 1993 under the United Nations General Assembly to deal with a variety of issues including decolonization, peacekeeping, human rights, outer space, and atomic radiation. It was designed to regulate the trusteeship system, handle decolonization issues, and deal with other security issues that the first committee, wasn’t able to handle; however, after the dismantling of the trusteeship system, the committee merged with the Special Political committee to create what we now know as SPECPOL.
